I wake up, disoriented. The walls are swirling and my vision is very blury. "Jessica?" I call out. I don't hear her, so I pull the covers away from my hot, sweaty body and get up, almost passing out again. "Jess?" I go to her closet and grab a robe that's too big for her and put it on. I walk out of the room and into the living room. "Baby?" I call again. I smell food, and immediatly walk into that direction, my stomach protesting from too much activity, and no fuel.
I find her in the kitchen just as she's finishing up her sandwich making. I quickly make one too and grab an unopened Dr. Pepper from out of the refrigierater, loving the way the coolness feels on the tips of my clammy fingers. "Hey babe." I smile, giving her a warm, passionate kiss on her lips.
We head for the dining room, and I pull out a chair for her. When I push her in, I set my food down on the placemat next to hers and sit down. I open my can and pour it into a glass that's filled with ice, and do the same for Jessica. Then I remember what I came over to do two days ago. "Excuse me. The restroom is calling," I note and dart to our bedroom. I find my pants and search for the little jewlery box from Kay Jewlers. I stuff it in the robe pocket and go to the bathroom, finding I haven't gone for two days. My bladder's about to burst.
When I'm finished, I flush the toilet and wash my hands. Then I walk casually to the dining room. "Jess, babe? Would you mind standing up for a second?" I ask.
