Hello. ^.^ For the past couple of weeks I've been writing a story. It's not really long, and it's not really good either. xD The idea I chose for the story is kind of stupid. It's kinda fantasy/sci-fi. xD Hope you like it. And the second chapter isn't done yet. That's just where I stopped yesterday. Oh, and I also posted part of this story on Abby's site called Family Matters.
Prologue
I used to live a normal life. It was boring, yes, but normal. I was a regular school girl, going to a regular school, and trying not to fail my regular classes. I wasn’t popular, nor did I have any drama in my life. I was part of the background.
Now, I’m sure a lot of people would hate that kind of life. They want adventure. They want drama. They want to change it up and be different.
Let me tell you something right now that I hope will change your mind.
If I could have chosen between a normal and boring life, or a thrilling and dangerous life, I would have chosen option one.
But I was forced to take option two.
And because I had to take option two, I’ve almost gotten myself killed (several times), I’ve met strange people I would have never wanted to meet, and not once in months have I been able to reassure myself that everything was peaceful and okay. Cause when you’re the hero, you can never take a break.
Trust me on this one. Be the person getting saved, instead of the person doing the saving. It’ll save you a lot of trouble.
Chapter 1
It was a normal day in school. History, Math, Science, lunch, Gym, and English. The usual schedule to an average day. There were a couple twists thrown in that morning. A pop-quiz in history on the Feudal Age of Japan, a big fight between Mike Anderson and Joe Lackey where the teachers had to practically pull them off of each other, and Mrs. Newton falling out of her chair in science which triggered the class to break out in laughter.
The biggest twist that day happened at lunch. And it changed my life forever.
No, I’m not being overly dramatic. It really did change my life forever. And it wasn’t about a broken nail or being asked out on a date. Those are stupid things to get over-excited about. What I’m talking about involves… well… important people.
I was sitting with my two best friends in the whole wide world, Julie Brown and Sierra Kings, when it all happened. We sat at the usual lunch table, which was in a corner of the room near the window.
Julie is a real quiet girl with dark brown hair and glasses. She’s the smartest person I know, and most days she brings her books with her to lunch to study. We get along real well because both of us agree that most of the people in our school are morons.
Sierra is tall, has long straight blond hair, and is the most athletic girl in the school. She could out run me any day she wanted, and can walk on her hands as easily as walking normally. Julie and I often tell her that she should be a pro gymnast, but she has her mind set on being in the circus. She told us that when she becomes a trapeze artist, she’ll buy us front row seats to her first show.
Anyways, we were all sitting there, talking about the classes we had next. Normal, right? Yeah, not for long.
“May, you’ll help me out in gym, right? I think we have to play volleyball next,” Julie said quietly, shuddering while she said the word gym.
Wow! Did I forget to introduce myself? Silly me. My name is May Easton. Here’s a proud fact; I’m the only girl named May in my whole school! I don’t know why I get so proud. I just do.
“Of course I’ll help you, Julie,” I said with a smile. “We both stink in gym, so it’s good to help each other out. I just hope we’ll be able to survive that class.”
Sierra put her elbows on the table and moaned. “Will you guys stop talking about gym?!”
“Sorry Sierra,” Julie said. “I forgot that you don’t have gym this semester.”
“Oh sure. You forgot,” Sierra said, putting extra emphasize on the word forgot. “Like you forget every day.”
I couldn’t help but laugh, and soon after Julie and Sierra joined in.
“Well, I really do need May’s help in gym. When I’m with her, none of the balls go near us,” Julie said proudly.
“And that’s a good thing? Gosh, you people…” Sierra muttered.
It was true. It’s like my prayers were answered every day in gym. During soccer when I was the goalie, all the kicks missed the goal completely. It saved me a lot of trouble. And in softball, all the hit balls never came near me. This is why Julie always tagged along.
“Geez Sierra. You’re very negative, aren’t you?” I taunted.
Sierra glared, but me and Julie started laughing like idiots again. Sierra joined in after a while too.
“Can we… um… sit here?” Asked a voice from behind me. I turned around in my seat and looked up. Two girls were standing there, looking down at me and my friends. They were holding lunch trays, and I had never seen them before.
“Sure,” I answered. “I’m May. Are you guys new here?”
The two girls took their seats, while Julie and Sierra stared at them quietly. Us three were the only ones who ever sat at this table. I think they were a little shocked that I let them sit here too. But I wasn’t going to be a snob or anything.
One of the girls smiled. “I’m April. Yes, we are new here.”
So her name was April, huh? I studied her a little more closely. She had short straight light blue hair, and dark blue eyes. She was also dressed very… well, not weird, but unique. She wore a black dress that went just below her knees, and the dress had long sleeves. There were white flower patterns all over the dress, and her shoes were black flats. She also had a headband which had a black and white flower coming out of it.
I glanced at the other girl next to April, but she was glaring fiercely at me for some reason. I flinched, but couldn’t help not stare. She had long straight black hair and brown eyes. She wore simple jeans and a gray sweater. Her and April looked so different. I was surprised they were even hanging out together.
April looked to the side at the girl and sighed. “May, this is June.”
I gulped. “Hi June.”
June rolled her eyes at me, but muttered a hello.
“June, that isn’t a great first impression,” April pointed out. “You should be kinder to strangers. Especially May.”
I don’t know what’s so special about me. But oh well. It was flattering. I looked over at Julie and Sierra, who were staring. “Umm… June, April, these are my two friends, Julie and Sierra.”
“Hello,” April said happily, sticking her hand out to Julie. Julie took it shyly, and looked down at her hand.
“Hello, April,” Julie said quietly.
“And it’s nice to meet Sierra,” April said, moving her hand to in front of Sierra. Sierra looked down at it, and shrugged.
“Hi,” Sierra said, shaking April’s hand.
I cringed. It looked like Julie and Sierra were kind of… uncomfortable. But April was certainly friendly. As for June… I wasn’t sure.
“Anyways,” April said, turning back to me, “we don’t know our way around here, and we were wondering if you could give us a tour.”
“Sure,” I said as June’s eyes widened. She turned to April and whispered something into her ear. From what I could hear, she sounded upset. What did I do her?
April glared back at June, and didn’t bother to whisper. “Come on, June. She’s nice. And I know she’s the one.”
“Who’s the one?” I blurted out without thinking.
“Oh, did I say that out loud?” April said with a blank expression on her face. “Forgot what I said.”
I stared at her. She was really strange. Both of them were. I could tell they were freaking out my friends, but I wanted to be kind to them. “Umm… Okay,” I said.
“So, let’s go!” April said, jumping up suddenly from her seat and forcing June to get up too.
“Go where? It’s the middle of lunch.”
“Well, you said you were going to show us around, right?” April said, walking around and standing in front of me. “You’re already done with you lunch. It’s all gone, see? And we need a tour as soon as possible!”
“Well, okay, if you guys are that excited,” I said, standing up.
“Not all of us our excited,” June muttered bitterly.
I ignored her comment, and turned to Sierra and Julie. “Guys… I’ll be back in a little bit, kay?”
Julie smiled, though she seemed confused at how quickly I was getting whisked away. “Sure, May. Have fun.”
“I will,” I answered, but was already getting half dragged by April. We walked out of the cafeteria and into the main hall. They kept walking, with me following behind them, until we were in the gym. It was empty because it was Coach Kline’s lunch break.
“Okay. You guys want to start the tour here? Well, this is the gym and-…”
“No. We don’t want a tour, so be quiet,” June said, cutting me off.
I blinked a few times. “But… You guys said-…”
“Umm… May, we only said we needed a tour because we were in front of your friends. We really need something else,” April said politely, cutting me off… again.
Before I could say anything, June was talking. “We don’t need you for anything school related. We need you for government work.”
“June!” April shouted. “Don’t be so blunt like that! This is a delicate matter!”
What the heck were they talking about? My head was spinning. I was needed for the government? Why? Did I steal something in a store once and they had caught me? But… I never stole anything in my life. “What are you guys talking about?” I asked quietly.
They both looked at me. “June, I’ll take care of this. You’re good at fighting, but you aren’t good with peoples’ feelings,” April said, taking a step forward.
Fighting? What about fighting!?
“Fine,” June sighed. “Just don’t forget about the necklace. If she isn’t the one, then we’re in so much trouble.”
“Geez, June. I won’t. I’m totally responsible,” April said happily. June rolled her eyes. “Look, May. You’ve heard a lot of rumors about the government of the United States, right? Like, things involving… life on other planets?”
“Yeah…” I said, confused. “But why would that matter?”
“You see, May… Those rumors are real. There are indeed other planets the United States has discovered other than the main ones in the Solar System.”
What was she talking about? “But… Huh? I mean… No. There’s only Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and sort of Pluto,” I said. “There can’t be others. We would know.”
April shook her head. “The United States has discovered seven other solar systems near ours. And on many of those planets, life has been discovered. NASA and the government have covered this up from most of the world. You see, if people found out that aliens did exist, they may panic.”
“Why would they panic? The aliens won’t hurt anyone. Aren’t they nice?”
April frowned. “No May, some of the planets are not nice at all. They’ve planned attacks on Earth several times. We’ve been able to stop them before they ever got to Earth. But it’s a pretty tough job.”
I was about to pass out. My head was spinning, and what came out of April’s mouth didn’t make sense. “How do you guys know all of this exactly?” I asked.
“Because we work for the government to stop these attacks,” June said in her low voice.
“But aren’t the aliens dangerous! You guys could get killed!” My voice broke, and I was close to screaming. This was crazy!
June laughed. “Oh please. They don’t stand a chance against us. We whip their butts every time.”
I couldn’t think of anything to say. What these two were telling me is that there are a bunch of aliens who want to conquer Earth, the government covers this up from everyone, and that they are the ones who stop the bad guys when they try to attack. It was like I was in a weird dream.
“This is the difficult part to explain…” April said quietly. “I know you’re probably thinking how we have been able to stop their attacks. The thing is… We aren’t entirely human. June and I are from a planet called Zetrain. We look exactly like humans on Earth, so no one can tell the difference. But… We’re much stronger than humans. We can do things they can’t do.”
Okay. I was officially crazy.
Chapter 2
“No,” I stated. “No, that’s not possible! Aliens don’t exist! You guys are just trying to mess with me!” I was becoming hysteric, and these two strange girls didn’t make sense.
“June, she isn’t taking this very well,” April said with a worried expression on her face.
June chuckled. “If she can’t handle this, then I wonder how she’ll take her next surprise.”
“I want proof!” I shouted suddenly.
The two of them looked at me like I had six heads. “What do you mean by proof?” June asked bitterly. “Aren’t we proof enough?”
“No. You guys look like normal humans. And this weird story can easily be made up!”
April giggled. June rolled her eyes. “Shall we show her, June?” April said happily.
June smirked. “Sure. You can go first, April.”
“Yeah!” April said, throwing her arms around June’s neck. “Thanks!”
I stared at them like an idiot. “Show me what?”
April turned to me, grinning. “Our powers, of course. It’s what makes us more powerful than humans. Wanna see mine?”
Before I could say anything, April started talking again. “Ready? Watch closely! See that basketball over there near the wall?”
I looked over at it. “Yes, but why is it so important?”
“Keep watching it.”
I nodded, and did as I was told. It was just an ordinary basketball. I glanced back over at April, who was holding one of her arms in the air. What was she doing? When I glanced back at the basketball, I finally understood.
There, floating three feet in the air was the basketball that had been sitting on the floor moments ago. A gasp escaped my lips, and I heard a satisfied laugh from behind me.
“Isn’t that cool, May? I can levitate things. Even people! But, they’re harder. This is simple for me to do, because the basketball is so small. Good proof, huh?” April laughed again, and raised the basketball higher into the air.
I stared at it with wide eyes. I instantly let myself believe them now. They were from another planet. There was no other explanation.
The ball dropped to the ground with a bang, and April lowered her hand. She crossed her arms across her chest and smiled.
“Ok… I believe you guys,” I said with a shaky voice.
“It’s amusing to see you in shock,” June said with a laugh. “But hey, now it’s my turn.”
June raised her hand into the air. Before she could do anything, April screamed.
“June! No! Not in here! You could destroy the place.” She waved her hands in the air, and threw herself in front of June.
June sighed, and pushed April aside. “I wasn’t going to throw them around or anything. I was just going to show her one in my hand. I’m not that stupid.”
“Oh,” April said, her face turning red like a tomato. “All right. Carry on.”
June smiled, and walked over to me. “See my hand?” She held it out in front of my face, and I looked at it curiously.
“Yup,” I said. “I see it.”
Suddenly, a weird orb appeared in her hand. It was black, and it looked like it had lightning swirling around it. I jumped back with a small scream, which made June smile even more.
“These are what I fight with. They explode on contact. If they hit an enemy, the enemy explodes. It’s pretty convenient. Of course, this is just a small one. Bigger ones usually drain my energy quicker.”
“This is what April meant by the better fighter?!”
The both laughed, but then their faces became serious again. The orb in June’s hand disappeared. “As much as I would love to show off, we have more important things to discuss.”
April sighed. “May, we didn’t tell you all of this just because we wanted too. There’s something you need to know… about yourself. And this may be a shock.”
“Is this about the government work?” For some reason, I was acting perfectly calm. Any normal person would have been screaming right now because of their weird powers. But, I’m not normal, so it all works out.
They both nodded. “You see… May… umm… you’re… well…” April couldn’t get out what she wanted to say.
“April, give her the necklace,” June said.
“Oh, right!” April said, fishing for something in her pocket. “This may be easier to explain with this.” She pulled out a gold-chained necklace that had a large emerald hanging from it.
“Whoa,” I breathed. “What does a necklace have to do with this?”
“Well, here. Try it on. We’ll explain later.” She levitated the necklace into the air, and fastened it around my neck.
“Wow. Thanks.” I looked up at the two of them, and noticed that they were wearing identical necklaces, but instead of emeralds June was wearing a pearl necklace, and April was wearing a diamond necklace.
“Hey, you guys have matching ones,” I pointed out.
“Yeah,” June said. “Usually I hate jewelry, but these necklaces work as an amplifier. They increase our powers a great deal. It’s the only way we’re able to use our powers so well.”
Wait? An amplifier? Then why were they giving me one? Wait… They were giving me one because…
“Oh no,” I said out loud. “No. No! Guys, you have the wrong person. You’re making a mistake. There’s no way I have powers like you guys. I think I should go now…” I started to walk toward the exit, but April grabbed my arm.
“May…” She said with a concerned look. “Please understand. When we came to Earth as infants, it was me, June, and somebody else. They always told us that there was still somebody else like us who got separated. We checked your records. You were found in an open field as a baby, abandoned. Well, that’s what the humans thought. You were brought to an orphanage, and two months later you were adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Easton. It seemed like you were a possibility. And when me and June saw your picture, we knew it must be you.”
I shook my head back and forth. “No. I’m not some alien. Trust me. I would have known…”
June rolled her eyes. “April, let’s just get this over with,” she said while bending down to pick up the basketball.
“June?” April asked with a confused look. “What are you…?”
Suddenly, June whipped back her arm and launched the basketball right toward my face. What the heck was she doing?! I shut my eyes, ready to get pummeled by the ball, and April screamed.
A few seconds later, I heard June’s voice. “April, stop screaming. May, open your eyes and look.”
I looked, and gasped. The basketball had completely stopped mid-air in front of me, and dropped to the ground. I looked over at April, but she shook her head. “May, that wasn’t me. It was you.”
“Huh?” Was all I could say. No, that wasn’t me. It couldn’t. It had to be April. That basketball was thrown at full strength, and it just couldn’t stop a foot in front of my face.
June walked up to us, and stood two feet in front of me. “Watch. And don’t close your eyes.”
She snapped back her hand again, made a tight fist, and punched at my face. I flinched, but didn’t blink.
Her fist was stopped by a weird rippling blue screen that suddenly appeared in front of me. I started, my mouth hanging open.
“See? That was you. You’re from our planet. You’re special. Well, not in my case. You don’t really have a great offensive power, but eh… It still counts.” She walked away and leaned against the wall. “April, fill her in on what happens now.”
